Botox and Fillers Details
What is Botox®?
Botox® is an injectable neuromuscular agent used to treat dynamic wrinkles, lines that occur as a result of repeated facial movements over time. Dynamic wrinkles include the tiny lines that form at the corners of your eyes (crow's feet), frown lines that form between your brows and horizontal forehead lines, or forehead rhytids. Botox® works by blocking the nerve signals between certain facial muscles and your brain; as a result, your brain cannot “tell” your muscles to contract when you smile or make other expressions, which means wrinkles are unable to form.
What are cosmetic fillers?
Cosmetic fillers – sometimes called dermal fillers or just fillers – are injectable products that help restore lost volume and fill in lines and wrinkles caused by the aging process and sun and other environmental damage – so-called static wrinkles. Fillers work not only by providing immediate volume in creases and depressed areas, but also by stimulating the production of natural collagen, one of the essential components of skin that helps it look firmer and more resilient. Collagen production declines with age, and fillers help “ramp up” production for results that persist long after the initial treatment. Some fillers also help the skin retain more moisture.
Can Botox® and fillers be used together?
Yes; in fact, many people use both Botox® and fillers to restore an overall more youthful and less worn appearance, creating some of the same effects as a facelift but without the prolonged downtime and excessive costs.
How often will I need filler or Botox® injections?
Botox® usually lasts about four to six months, but repeated injections can soften lines and wrinkles, meaning you may need treatment less frequently. Injections can last anywhere from about six months to well over a year, and regular touch-up treatments can help your results last indefinitely.
